Butter Sculpting Traditions continue at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds

While COVID-19 brought upon the cancelation of the 2020 Minnesota State Fair, some traditions still continued, such as Midwest Dairy’s Princess Kay of the Milky Way program. The newly crowned Princess Kay Brenna Connelly was sculpted out of 90 pounds of butter inside the Dairy Building at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

Mediamazing was at the Dairy Building capturing the progress of the sculpture throughout the day. We set up a camera to do a time lapse of the sculpting, along with a 360 camera capturing the carving within the booth.

67th annual Princess Kay of the Milky Way Coronation broadcast via livestream

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Midwest Dairy was looking for a way to bring the 67th coronation of Princess Kay of the Milky Way to the masses in a new way. Typically, the coronation is held the evening before the first day of the Minnesota State Fair on the fairgrounds, drawing a crowd of supporters and fans. This year, following Minnesota’s COVID-19 guidelines, Brenna Connelly of Byron was crowned in front of a small gathering, while thousands watched live on the Princess Kay of the Milky Way Facebook page.

Mediamazing was brought on board to produce the livestream for the ceremony. After the live event we interviewed the new Princess Kay and edited together a highlight for broadcast on the local news later that evening.

Undeniably Dairy with Harrison Smith and the Minnesota Vikings

Undeniably Dairy is an educational program designed by Discovery Education and the National Dairy Council to educate students in 5th through 8th grade about the dairy community. Students go behind-the-scenes to learn about modern farming, the process of taking milk from the farm to school, and how to care for cows and the community.

Midwest Dairy recently brought Harrison Smith of the Minnesota Vikings to one of the classes to learn with the students and play a game of football. We had a lot of fun editing the videos into teasers for social media!
