Century College has partnered together with Stillwater Area High School to offer a concurrent enrollment course called Orientation to Education. The course introduces potential educators into classrooms to learn new teaching strategies. Several Century students spent 10 field hours in Stillwater during their “Summer Success” program.

Mediamazing followed some of these students in the classroom, and spoke with several Stillwater student leaders and teachers about the program to create a video sharing the positive experience.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stillwater Area Schools looked for alternative ways to work with students online for its highly successful “Summer Success” educational program. After a turbulent spring of adjustments for both students and faculty, the Summer Success program gave teachers the opportunity to explore new educational tools to reach students in the virtual classroom.

Mediamazing documented the process during the multiweek educational program, capturing both students and teachers as they navigated new workflows through the educational application Seesaw. Teachers were able to implement new strategies for online learning, and students were able to get a taste for how online learning may look for the upcoming school year.

As part of the Targeted Services program, each summer Stillwater Area Public Schools holds its “Summer Success” program. Designed for students to get an opportunity to catch up in school, as well as better prepare them for the upcoming school year, Summer Success uses not only traditional teaching methods, but also new and more engaging methods in the smaller environment.

Teachers are supported in the classroom by “Summer Success Leaders,” older students ranging from 8th through 12th grade. They play an active role as mentors to the students, helping them thrive in the classroom.
